Savvas Poursaitidis started his career at Doxa Drama. He also played for Veria, Olympiacos and Skoda Xanthi in Greece. Later, he moved to Cyprus to play for Digenis Morphou, Ethnikos Achna, Anorthosis and APOEL.
APOEL FC signed Poursaitidis in June 2008 after the player was released from Anorthosis FC as a result from a failure in negotiations with his former club to renew his contract. In his first year with APOEL he continued to impress Cypriot football fans with his high level performances . In the end, he helped APOEL FC to be crowned champions (2009) after two unsuccessful seasons.
The next year Poursaitidis helped APOEL FC achieve the greatest success in its history by eliminating EB/Streymur, FK Partizan and FC Copenhagen and thus reaching the UEFA Champions League group stage. He appeared in five official 2009–10 UEFA Champions League group stage matches with APOEL.
After the end of 2010-2011 Cypriot Football Championship the Board of Directors of APOEL FC renewed the contract of Savvas Poursaitidis (until June 2012) as they recognized that Poursaitidis was one of the key players that contributed greatly towards winning the Championship of 2011.
Despite his age (35), Poursaitidis remains a vital and irreplaceable member of APOEL FC's starting line up.
He won two Greek Championships and one Greek Cup with Olympiacos. He also won two Cypriot Championships, one Cypriot Cup and one Cypriot Super Cup with Anorthosis. At APOEL he won two Cypriot Championships and three Cypriot Super Cups.
On August 2009 he gained the Cypriot nationality and made his debut with Cyprus national team on March 2010 in a friendly match against Iceland.
